By SAM HATCHER Seeing that Paul McCartney was in Nashville Monday night brought back a number of memories about the introduction of the Beatles to America. Although I may be dating myself, I remember watching the group’s appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. And I also remember my father declaring something like . . . “if I ever see you with hair that long, I’ll have your head shaved.” What I remember most about the Beatles’ first visit to America wasn’t so much about their music as it was their appearance. It was the first time that I and, I’m sure many other Americans, had seen hair covering or partially covering a man’s ears. My, my haven’t things changed since 1964. If only long hair on young men was our country’s only problem, wouldn’t we be great shape today. |
