Janice McKaig Homeyer, 80
MT. JULIET -- A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11 at Bond Memorial Chapel for Mrs. Homeyer, 80, of Mt. Juliet. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, July 26, 1929, to Col. and Mrs. Nelson McKaig, she died Apr. 3, 2010 at Providence Assisted Living Facility.
A longtime educator in Mt. Juliet, she retired from the Wilson County Schools in 1992. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Social Work from the University of Alabama. Her genuine affection for her students was felt by all who knew her. Her other passions included her own children, her many, many animals, her cheerleaders, feeding the hummingbirds of Wilson County and Alabama football.
Mrs. Homeyer was also active in the Mt. Juliet community, as a founding member of Our Father’s House, an active volunteer with Summit Medical Center, the Flying Aces and the Mt. Juliet Help Center.
Survivors include: her sister-in-law June McKaig, and nephews James and Keller McKaig, of Birmingham, Alabama. She is also survived by many friends who loved her as family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Homeyer is preceded in death by her brother James McKaig, her husbands Frank Homeyer and Gene Davis and her children William “Rusty” Hembree and Dinah Lee Homeyer Zimmerlee.
