A Lebanon man was killed in a car accident that occurred Tuesday night in DeKalb County where he was reportedly ejected from the back seat of the car.
The wreck happened around 9 p.m. on U. S. Highway 70 East near Dowelltown in DeKalb County, just across the Wilson County line.
Troy Bain, 41, of Park Avenue in Lebanon, was identified by the Tennessee Highway Patrol as the victim who died.
The report from THP said the vehicle, a 1997 Ford SUV driven by Dwayne Reeder, 30, of Smithville, was headed east on Hwy. 70 less than 1 mile from Medlin Drive in Dowelltown when he apparently fell asleep and the vehicle traveled off the left side of the road over a large embankment overturning a couple of times and landing on its top in a creek ejecting the two passengers who were seating in the rear.
The other passenger who was in the back of the vehicle was identified as Walter Redmon, 39, of Smithville. A passenger in the front was identified as Courtney Paris, 27, of Smithville.
The report said that Redmon, Paris and Bain were not wearing their seat belts. Reeder did wear a seat belt.Criminal charges are pending as law enforcement officials say alcohol and drugs may have played a part in the accident.
The accident was investigated by Lt. Randy Maynard and Trooper Johnny Farley.
