A Lebanon woman was killed Monday afternoon, Nov. 21 in a traffic accident on Highway 109 when her vehicle was struck by another, being driven by a Cross Plains resident who suffered minor injuries.

Sandra Kay Watkins, 54, of Lebanon was driving her 1999 Nissan Altima on East Laguardo Road at approximately 5:50 p.m. and while attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 109, her vehicle was struck by a 2004 Subaru IWX, driven by Kenneth S. Reeves, 39, of Cross Plains.

Lebanon Police Chief Scott Bowen said Watkins had made a complete stop at the sign on East Laguardo Road, but said they believe she failed to yield to Reeves, who was traveling north on Hwy 109.

It appeared as if it was just a failure to yield on her part. She pulled out into his path and he struck her, Bowen said.

When officers arrived on scene, Watkins was found trapped in her vehicle and was successfully extricated by Wilson County Emergency Management Agency personnel. Watkins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by LifeFlight where she died from her injuries. Reeves was transported to Summit Medical Center for minor injuries and was later released.

The crash is being investigated by Lebanon Police Officer Steve Green of the departments Crash Reconstruction Team.
