Long leads FCS win at DA

NASHVILLE -- Senior quarterback A.J. Long accounted for five touchdowns in Friendship Christian’s 42-7 win at Davidson Academy Friday, Oct. 11.
 
The Syracuse commitment two touchdown passes to Steven Hollis (37 and 35 yards) and another of 37 yards to Austin Taylor.
 
All told, he completed four of his five pass attempts for 113 yards.
 
For good measure, Long ran eight times for 71 yards and scored on sprints of 10 and 20 yards.
 
The Commanders rolled up 21 points in the first quarter, then tacked on 14 more in the second -- taking a lead of 35-0 into intermission.
 
Taylor finished with 34 yards rushing on seven attempts, Hollis ran five times for 25 yards and Spencer Burge added 10 yards on five carries.
 
Hayden White and John Michael Petty (with a 20 yard return) each intercepted a Davidson Academy pass while Taylor Mason had a quarterback sack.
 
Cody Walker led the Commanders with eight tackles, Gene Carmen had six stops while Gage Bentley, Taylor and Will Burress finished with five tackles apiece. Taylor caused and recovered a Davidson Academy fumble. He also blocked a Davidson Academy punt.

Standing 5-2 on the season, Friendship Christian will host 6-1 Donelson Christian Academy Friday at Pirtle Field in an East-Middle District contest. Both teams sport 2-1 district records.
