LPD, family searching for local girl
According to an investigator, the girl was spotted in town less than a week ago by one of her friends. Bowen said the friend told the investigator information that led them to believe she is unharmed and simply does not want to be found at this time.
She is a young adult and we are concerned, but she left her house on her own free will. We are following up, but since there is no evidence of abduction we can only do so much, he said. There is a big difference in the way a missing or abducted childs case is treated than a child who ran away from her home.
Deshons mother, Melissa Crawford, said that although police have classified this as a case of a runaway juvenile she has reason to believe it is not. Crawford explained that her daughter, a student at Lebanon High School, did not have it in her character to run away from home.
After 11 days with no word from Deshon, who suffers from Tourette Syndrome and asthma, Crawford is worried that her daughter could be in danger.
She was upset earlier on Friday because I wouldnt let her go to homecoming but then she talked on the phone for three hours and was fine. Before bed she hugged me and kissed me, Crawford said. Crawford added that she found a letter on Saturday, which she believes was written by Deshon late Friday night after she had gone to bed. The letter read that Deshon was going for a walk on the track that runs around the Jimmy Floyd Family Center and into Don Fox Park. She used to be on the track team and liked to run. The letter said she knew shed probably be in trouble, but that she would be home.
However, police cannot use the letter as evidence in the case because there was not a date printed on it and could have technically been written at any time and only found now.
I just want her to know she isnt in trouble here and I want her to come home, Crawford said.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Deshon Lynn Crawford should call LPD at 444-2323.
