LSSD school meal price to increase

LSSD’s new meal prices are below what other Tennessee school districts charge and are in line with the prices of bordering school districts.

“Rising food costs are just one of the factors that are driving up the cost to prepare and serve healthy school meals,” said Angie Ballard, Child Nutrition supervisor for LSSD. “The higher cost of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, coupled with rising food, fuel and labor costs have resulted in an estimated 18 percent increase in the cost of preparing and serving nutritious meals at our schools. Our school district has worked hard to hold the line on what we charge for meals. Even with the higher charges, our students are still getting a very good value.”
