UNION CITY -- Mike Mandarino homered twice and drove in three runs in seventh-ranked Cumberlands 11-1 victory in seven innings over Mid-Continent Friday at Elam Stadium.
Mandarino (3-1) also struck out eight and allowed one run on four hits in six innings to pick up the victory on the mound as well. The Bulldogs (9-7, 2-1 TranSouth) won 2-of-3 in the series and continue the current nine-game road swing starting Monday with five games in three games in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Cumberland scored six times in the first two innings and added five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, breaking out of its offensive struggles for at least one day.
Woody Stewart (0-2), the first of four Mid-Continent (5-15, 1-2) hurlers, took the loss, giving up six runs on three hits in one-plus inning. MCU made an error in the first and second inning that led to a pair of unearned runs.
Mandarino led off the fifth with a solo homer and Ross reached on an error. He later scored on a double from Sydnor and Alford followed with a walk. Urquharts two-out, two-run double pushed the Bulldog advantage to 10-0.
Mandarino hit another solo homer to leadoff the sixth for CUs final run.
MCUs only run came on a solo homer from Richard Arias to start the bottom of the sixth.
