Medley to lead Smith Co. Schools

Former Lebanon High football coach Mark Medley will be the new Smith County Director of Schools. Medley, coach of the Blue Devils for seven seasons (1987 1993), was appointed by the Smith County Board of Education in a meeting held Tuesday, March 6.

A native of the Hickman Community, Medley will take office July 1 upon the expiration of the contract of Roger Lewis who was Smith Countys first appointed DOS 12 years ago.

The other finalist for the position was Smith County native Dr. Benita Bruster, a professor at Austin Peay State University.

The Blue Devils went 64-18 during Medleys tenure at LHS (a .780 winning percentage) with seven consecutive berths in the TSSAA playoffs including a trip to the quarterfinals in 1993.

Since leaving Lebanon, Medley has worked as classroom teacher, assistant coach, elementary principal, athletic director and principal of Gordonsville High School.
