There's a new kid on the block by the name of "Millworks Theatre" opening at The Mill at Lebanon in June.

This multifunctional entertainment venue will appeal not only to theatre devotees but also to music lovers and aficionados of other multiple forms of entertainment, officials said.

Millworks will present its "Evening Series" of musicals, comedies and dramas on Thursday through Saturday evenings and at Sunday Matinees. Tuesday through Saturdays, its "Afternoon Series" of fast paced song and dance variety shows, light comedies and musicals will be presented at matinee performances that are perfectly suited to the bus tour market. On the remaining Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday evenings, Millworks Theatre will present their “Music and Event Series” and will have a variety of entertainment options from Jazz, Country, Bluegrass, Gospel and Classical artists to stand up comics, improv groups, murder mystery evenings, magic and more.

Millworks Theatre has also teamed with local caterers “Two Fat Men Catering” to create a dinner theatre atmosphere at The Mill at Lebanon. Not only can patrons experience some of the finest entertainment that the area has to offer, officials said, but have options for upscale dining at either evening or afternoon performances. For those who simply want to enjoy affordable live entertainment with a show only ticket, that's an option as well.

The Theatre will officially open its doors in June on the weekends for a soft opening featuring musical acts, bands and more, and a Grand Opening will follow in July. The theatre’s annual fundraising benefit, “Evening of Stars” will be on Saturday, June 27 this year with an evening of food, fun, silent auction and entertainment events. Officials are encouraging the community to come and support their new local professional theatre.

Millworks has an impressive array of shows already planned for their inaugural season. The lineup includes: "I Hate Hamlet," "I’ll Be Seeing You," "That's Country," “That’s Hollywood!” and concluding with a large, sparkling and fun holiday production called “The Christmas to Remember.”

The opening choice beginning July 9 and running through Aug. 15 will be "The Honky Tonk Angels" directed by the show's writer and Millworks board member, Ted Swindley. He is best known for creating the hit musical “Always … Patsy Cline,” which opened in New York in June 1997. The show continues to play throughout the world and is currently running at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Millworks Entertainment Group, Inc. (dba Millworks Theatre), is comprised of some of the area's top producers, directors, choreographers, costume designers and business owners, with collective theatre experience of more than 125 years.

Artistic Director Keith F. Hardy issued the following statement from Millworks Entertainment Group, Inc. to get the Wilson County community involved: "In establishing Millworks Theatre, those of us connected with Millworks Entertainment Group are adamant in our belief, that in order to lay a proper foundation for the building of a new theatre company, we must reach out and involve the citizens and businesses of Wilson County. It is with their advice, their donations, their hands-on support and their enthusiasm that Millworks Theatre will become not only a reality, but become a prominent entertainment venue throughout Wilson County and the surrounding areas. As we seek to join your community, we offer our pledge that Millworks Entertainment Group and   Millworks Theatre will consistently strive to represent the strong values that are representative of the rich, cultural background of Wilson County."

For its 2009 season, Millworks Theatre will be open from June 2 to Dec. 31. Starting with its 2010 season, the theatre will be open year-round.
