Witnesses reported that Lancaster was traveling at a high rate of speed, possible 100 mph or more, when he lost control and ran off the right shoulder of the roadway then came back upon the road and back off a second time on the right shoulder where the vehicle struck the end cap of a guard rail. The impact caused the vehicle to rotate around striking its right rear. The vehicle spun around again, this time striking the driver’s door and ejecting him from the car.
The trooper noted in his report that alcohol was believed to have been involved. Lancaster was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident occurred about 12:27 a.m.
