MJ reaches 9-AAA soccer semifinals

From Post staff reports

GALLATIN -- A second half goal by Mt. Juliet's Riley Wendling was the difference as the Lady Bears knocked off Gallatin 1-0 in Friday's quarterfinal round of the District 9-AAA soccer tournament.
Wendling, a sophomore, broke open a scoreless game with an unassisted goal in the 14th minute of the second half.

"We had a lot of chances to score and missed a penalty kick in the first half that would have given us some momentum before halftime," said Mt. Juliet head coach Ryan Hill.

"Gallatin battled the whole game but our defense did a great job keeping them from scoring."

Soph Sarah Carter was spectacular between the pipes for Mt. Juliet, finishing with seven saves.

With the win, Mt. Juliet improved to 7-9-1 overall headed into a 6 p.m. match Tuesday vs. No. 1-seeded Beech High.

Wilson Central lost to Station Camp 4-1 Saturday while No. 2-seed Hendersonville ousted Lebanon by an 8-1 decision.

The district finals game will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Gallatin High.
