Versatile Mt. Juliet High baseball player Marshall Gei signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent with the University of Kentucky during ceremonies Wednesday morning at the MJHS library.

Gei, the son of Guillermo and Jennifer Gei, is projected to be a catcher for the Wildcats after having pitched, played third base and caught last season as a junior.

"We were blessed to have some depth behind the plate last year," said Golden Bear baseball coach Jim Carter. "It looks like he'll be our everyday catcher this spring. He's one of the hardest working young men I've had the opportunity to coach."

A switch-hitter, who batted .266 during the regular season, hit a robust .455 during the postseason. He finished the year with 19 RBI and was named to the District 9-AAA all-tournament team.

As a pitcher, Gei went 6-3 on the mound with an ERA of 1.25 in 50.3 innings.
