LEBANON -- Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 at First United Methodist Church for Mrs. Sorrels, 84, of Lebanon.
Born on March 2, 1927 in Brownsville, Mrs. Sorrels died Aug. 24, 2011 at University Medical Center.
She married Dr. Hardie V. Sorrels, Jr. in 1959. The couple moved to Lebanon in the summer of 1964 with their three young children when they purchased Shannons Drug Store.
Mrs. Sorrels was very active at the now defunct McClain School. She was a Cub Scout leader as well as a Girl Scout leader in the late 1960s and mid 1970s, and was very proud of having two Eagle Scout sons as well as four Eagle Scout grandsons.
Mrs. Sorrels was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for 47 years and taught the toddler Sunday School class for over 20 years. She was active for many years in the local Village Womens Club.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Services will be conducted by Dr. Mike Ripski and Rev. David Hesson. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include: children Dr. Hardie V. Sorrels, III (Amy) of Lebanon and their sons Hardie IV, Reed, Eric, and Jameson; David Dutro Sorrels (Kim) of Spartanburg, S.C.; Dixie Rury (Ron) and son Marshall Suiter of Lebanon; sister Doris Crawford of Whiteville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hardie V. Sorrels, Jr.
Active pallbearers: John Hill, Jr., Ricky Haskins, Dr. John Gallaher and her five grandsons. Honorary pallbearers: Dr. Larimore Warren, Dr. Ken Anderson, Dr. Charles Lanning, Dr. Rob Woods, and Dr. Bruce Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Sorrels honor to Boy Scout Troop 643 of Lebanon, First United Methodist Church, or the National Kidney Foundation.
