To the Editor:
Way back in June 1990, I retired after having worked since 1945. About a week later, I received a letter from Lynn Harris, administrator of elections in Wilson County, requesting my help in the next election. It was at that point I realized Lynn must have eyes in the back of her head. I have been helping ever since at the various elections. In fact, after they added the “Greeter” position at the early elections, I have filled that job.
Call me “naïve,” but have no idea what the party affiliation is of the various employees. That subject never came up in all the years I helped. Party affiliation had no bearing on your ability to do the work. Every time we have an election, we are reminded that we are to non-partisan even though we know both parties and independents are working. It is my hope that the new Wilson County Election Commission will base all of its decisions on what is best for ALL VOTERS. Party affiliation should not be the determining reason for employment or any other considerations.
