2008 Miss Basketball, Tourney MVP

As if an exclamation point was needed to cap off an incredible year, Wilson Central post player Jasmine Hassell has been named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class AAA all-state basketball team.

The honor, released Wednesday morning, comes on the heels of the 6-2 junior being named TSSAA Class AAA Miss Basketball and Most Valuable Player of the Farm Bureau Insurance Class AAA Basketball Championships

Other Class AAA all-state honorees include: Katie Brooks (Heritage), Michelle Davis (Cleveland), Nicole Dickson (Greeneville), Rachel Isom (Cleveland), Dana Jackson (Franklin County), Jasmine James (Bartlett), Alex Jarrell (Shelbyville), Kortni Jones (Oak Ridge), Crystal Kesler (West), LaTesa McLaughlin (Millington), Jasmine Newsome (Millington), Ceny Phelps (Shelbyville), Adrienne Pratcher (Memphis East), Dymon Raynor (Smyrna), Raegan Thompson (Oak Ridge) and Sarah Watkins (Houston).

Hassell helped lead the Wilson Central Lady Wildcats to a record of 31-6 and the second state title for the local team in the past three years.

Hassell scored 22 points in the state finals -- a 37-33 victory over Millington.

She accounted for nearly 60 percent of Central’s offense as she knocked down 9-of-15 shots from the floor and went 4-of-8 at the line.

Hassell scored 71 points in three state tournament games.
