LEBANON -- Cumberland University will be hosting the 2008 NAIA Region XI Championship this week, May 6-9, on campus at Ernest L. Stockton Field. The winner of the Region XI tournament will advance to the NAIA Southeast Super Regional series and will face the NAIA Region XII champion in a best of two-of-three series for the automatic bid the 2008 NAIA World Series in Lewiston, ID. Only the region champions are eligible for any at-large bids to the World Series.
The Region XI championship will feature the top 6 teams in Region XI and will begin with the TranSouth Conference regular season champions, No. 2 seed Trevecca University facing the Mid-South Conference tournament champion, No. 5 seed Campbellsville Tigers, at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The 1 p.m. match-up will have No. 1 seed University of the Cumberlands (KY) facing No. 6 seed Martin Methodist College. The opening day will close with host Cumberland University (41-19), seeded No. 3 and TranSouth Conference Tournament Champion, battling No. 4 seed Lambuth University. Tournament finals are on tap for Friday, May 9. |
