LEBANON -- Funeral services for Mr. Whitfield, 85, of Hartsville were held Wednesday afternoon, May 7, at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home. Born October 26, 1922, in Wilson County, Mr. Whitfield died May 5, 2008 at the University Medical Center. He was the son of the late Willis and Era Wilkerson Whitfield and was a Prisioner of War, having served with the US Army during World War II. Mr. Whitfield worked at the Texas Boot Warehouse for many years and was a farmer. Services were conducted by Rev. David Brewington with interment in the Conatser Cemetery. Survivors include children Mary Murphy and Richard (Janet) Whitfield; sister Carrie Mae Gray -- all of Lebanon; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Glenn, Frank, Lester and Howard Whitfield. Honorary pallbearers, John Fox Jr., Ray Swain and Jim Swain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Partlow Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. |
