LEBANON -- Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, May 4 at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mr. Johnston, 88, of Lebanon. Known as "Joe" to his family and friends, he passed away Friday, May 2, 2008, at the St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Mr. Johnston was a US Army veteran of World War II, and a professional horse trainer -- trainingAmerican Saddle Breed. He was a former member of the Lebanon Rotary Club, the American Legion and the United Professional Horseman’s Association. Born in Smith County, he was the son of the late M.A. and Nettie Wilkerson Johnston. Services were conducted by the Rev. Gordon Lee and Rev. Scott Turner. Interment followed in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon. Survivors include: his wife of 34 years Sarah Frances Clemons Johnston; children Chad Jones, Casey (Angie) Johnston and Amy Jo (Blake) Bass -- all of Lebanon and Jody (Rebecca) Johnston of Johnson City Also surviving are sisters Beady Johnston of Lebanon and Brenda White of Brush Creek; mother-in-law Jean Clemons of Lebanon; grandchildren Caitie and Will Jones, Kasey Johnston, Emma Kate and Carter Bass. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnston is preceded in death by siblings Sadie Gilbert, Lois Speck, Rev. Otis Johnston, Taft Johnston and Hoyal Johnston. Pallbearers included: Chad Jones, Jody and Casey Johnston, Blake Bass, Randy Massey, Otis Johnston, Jr., Joel Speck and Robert Speck. Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
