To the Editor:

I do so appreciate the column written by Dr. Steven Livingston on adding fluoride to water. He relayed my sentiments in so many ways.

Even though fluoride may benefit the teeth of children, it can also lead to attention deficit hyperactivity.

Even though fluoride may benefit the teeth of children, it can also lead to attention deficit hyperactivity.

As a senior citizen, I’m interested about the osteoporosis concern as well as liver, brain and thyroid damage that could occur from the toxins in fluoride. Research suggests it can cause thickening of bone around elderly people’s hips, leading to fractures.

Since it is concentrated in bone and excreted by the kidneys, there is evidence of enhanced risk of osteoporosis and kidney disease.

Various fruits and vegetables as well as seafood contain fluoride in its natural state. This would be a more favorable way to get fluoride.
