Dear Ken: Did movie star Julienne Moore used to be on the soap “As the World Turns”? You got it. Moore, 49, who was born in Fayetteville, N.C., portrayed half-sisters Frannie and Sabrina on “ATWT” from 1985-1988. She is considering a brief return to the soap opera before it comes to an end in September. Among her film credits are “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “Boogie Nights,” “The Big Lebowski.” “Safe,” “Nine Months,” “Assassins,” “The End of the Affair” and, my favorite, “The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio,” that will make you cry. You bet, Little Buddy. It appears a three-hour tour may be coming to a screen near you. Word on the street and in the lagoon is that the script will come from Brad Copeland, the screenwriter behind “Wild Hogs” and TV episodes of “Arrested Development” and “My Name Is Earl.” Among some names being tossed about are Michael Cera (George-Michael Bluth on “Arrested Development”) as Gilligan and Beyonce Knowles as Ginger. Who knows? Just pass me a slice of coconut pie.
Cigarette commercials on television were banned as of Jan. 2, 1971. Among some of the slogans were: “Winston tastes good like a cigarette should!”; “Us Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch!”; “You’ve come a long way, baby” (Virginia Slims); “You get a lot to like with a Marlboro”; “I’d walk a mile for a Camel”; “Come all the way up to Kool”; “LSMTF: Lucky Strike means fine tobacco“; and “Pall Mall. Wherever particular people congregate.”
Gray, 69, has two films coming out this year, “The Flight of the Swan” and “Expecting Mary,” in which she co-stars with Elliott Gould, Cloris Leachman, Della Reese and Cybill Shepard in the tale of about a runaway pregnant teenager from a wealthy family who winds up in a trailer park in New Mexico where she learns the true meaning of family. Gray was in an episode of “90210” two years ago. Over the past decade she has starred in plays in both London and across the U.S.
