LEBANON -- Eight Cumberland pitchers combined to hold Lindsey Wilson to four hits Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs came away with a 2-1 victory at Stockton Field.
Jeremiah McElwain (2-0) worked the eighth and picked up the win. Andrew Ward got his fourth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out the side. Brian Lucas had the game-winning RBI, a sharp single in the bottom of the eighth. CU's other run came in the third as Jason Bush lifted a SAC fly. "We're playing better," said CU coach Woody Hunt, "I think we're starting to come around. The guys are a little more confident and we're getting some outstanding pitching. Cumberland improved to 34-18 on the season with the win and will be back in action Thursday, April 24 as Freed Hardeman comes to town to open a three-game conference series. The TranSouth Conference tournament gets underway Monday, April 28 at the USA Baseball Complex in Millington. BULLDOGS SWEEP At BETHEL -- McKENZIE -- Cumberland University's baseball Bulldogs improved to 33-18 on the season with a three-game sweep at TranSouth Conference rival Bethel College. On Friday, CU knocked off the Wildcats 12-2, followed by a doubleheader sweep Saturday by scores of 7-3 and 11-7. For details, check Wednesday's print edition of The Wilson Post. |
