Wilson County’s unemployment rate for March rose to 8.8 percent, up 0.3 percent from the February figure of 8.5.

The unemployment rates for all 95 counties for March were released Thursday by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

The labor force in Wilson County for March stood at 56,680 with 51,670 employed. That left 5,010 unemployed.

Wilson County’s unemployment rate for March rose to 8.8 percent, up 0.3 percent from the February figure of 8.5.

The unemployment rates for all 95 counties for March were released Thursday by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

The labor force in Wilson County for March stood at 56,680 with 51,670 employed. That left 5,010 unemployed.

The March figure of 8.8 percent is 3.5 percent higher than it was in March 2008 when the jobless rate stood at 5.3 percent, a release from the department said.

Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March was released this past week and shows the jobless rate at 9.6 percent which was an increase of 0.6 percent than February’s rate of 9.0.

The U.S. unemployment rate for March stood at 8.5 percent.

March jobless numbers increased in 74 counties in Tennessee, decreased in 19 counties and remained the same in two counties.

Lincoln County registered the state’s lowest county unemployment rate at 6.9 percent, down from 7.0 percent in February. Perry County had the state’s highest unemployment rate at 25.4 percent, up from 24.1 in February, followed by Scott County at 18.8 percent, up from 18.0 percent in February.

Knox County had the state’s lowest major metropolitan rate of 7.3 percent, up 0.2 percent from February. Davidson County was 7.9 percent, up 0.4 percent from the previous month. Hamilton County was at 8.0 percent, up 0.1 percent in February and Shelby County was 8.9 percent, up from the February rate of 8.5 percent.

Nearby, Sumner County’s unemployment rate for March was 9.5 percent, up 0.4 percent from February; Williamson County’s jobless rate was 7.2 percent for March, an increase of 1.0 percent from the previous month; and Rutherford County’s unemployment rate was 9.3 percent, up 0.1 percent from February.
