Joseph Storehouse will be giving away food this weekend, but the group is in need of help to continue its ministry.

On Thursday, June 25, from 9 a.m. until noon, there will be a food giveaway for the elderly and ill with a letter from their doctor stating “they cannot stand in line.”

Again on Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. until noon, the storehouse will give away wheelbarrows of food to others in need.

Joseph Storehouse will be giving away food this weekend, but the group is in need of help to continue its ministry.

On Thursday, June 25, from 9 a.m. until noon, there will be a food giveaway for the elderly and ill with a letter from their doctor stating “they cannot stand in line.”

Again on Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. until noon, the storehouse will give away wheelbarrows of food to others in need.

“We have many more people asking for help than we have food,” said Bob Evans, pastor of Love’s Way Community Church which sponsors the food giveaway. “The sad part is we have tractor trailer loads of food donated to us, but we don’t have enough space to store it all.”

Evans is working on meeting the Lebanon planning and zoning requirements to build an additional storage section onto the back of the existing building.

He said the current hurdle involves the requirement to pave the parking area and driveway. The paving would be quite expensive, he noted.

Various groups have already donated the engineering drawings as well as dirt compacting and bulldozing to get the site ready to build.

Now Evans is looking for someone who can help with this next step.

Also, the program has been losing money this year, but Evans said the church still had some money left from this past fall.

It cost $1,700 for packaging, warehouse and freight to bring a semi-trailer load of food to Lebanon.

“If 17 people give $100 or 34 people give $50 that brings in another truck of food,” Evans said.

Requests for help has greatly increased and donations are down.

“Together we can help hurting people get through these difficult times,” Evans said. “I’m thankful for all of our volunteers and want to remind them to continue to be faithful.”

At this time of year Joseph’s Storehouse needs additional volunteers. It takes about 50 volunteers on the last Saturday of each month to help haul and load groceries. On the Thursday before the Saturday food giveaway, about 30 volunteers are needed, but often there aren’t that many available.

Evans would like to invite all who want to be part of this work to call or stop by and sign up to help.

“We need more financial partners, too,” he said. “The Joseph Storehouse is a division of the Love One Another Embassy where Ambassadors of Love reach out to hurting people with loving hands.”

He said the past two or three months have been a time of revival at the little church in the back of the storehouse, too.

“We’re not sure why all this is happening, but God’s been demonstrating His love through it all,” Evans said.

One church member, Joe Tichenor, put it this way. “While we were all praying, I had an image of Jesus moving down the aisle putting His hands on everyone’s heads.”

Holly Weeks and her husband, Terry, came to join the ministry about three months ago. She said, “We’re here because this is where God is at work.”
