Another person has confirmed that he is considering a race for Wilson County mayor.

Randall Hutto, a longtime educator and currently assistant director of Lebanon Special School District, said Tuesday he is “seriously” considering placing his name in the hat for the 2010 ballot contest.

Another person has confirmed that he is considering a race for Wilson County mayor.

Randall Hutto, a longtime educator and currently assistant director of Lebanon Special School District, said Tuesday he is “seriously” considering placing his name in the hat for the 2010 ballot contest.
          
The office, held now by Mayor Robert Dedman, has already attracted two candidates including former Lebanon Mayor Don Fox and State Sen. Mae Beavers and the interest of others including Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe.
          
Hutto said he had checked with members of the LSSD school board and had received an okay for him to run for the office and not resign from his duties with the school system as long as his campaign for election does not conflict with his responsibilities.
         
“I believe I can do this satisfactorily by working before and after my school work day and by using allotted vacation days,” Hutto said.
          
He said he became interested in seeking the position “not because of issues facing Wilson County” but rather because of “opportunities that are before us that I think can very well shape our future.”
          
Hutto, 48, who grew up in Watertown in southeast Wilson County, has a 24-year record in education. For 18 years he was a classroom teacher and coach at Lebanon High School. For the past 12 years he was at LHS he was the school’s head basketball coach.
          
Hutto and his wife Paula have three children; Alex, 19; Megan, 15; and Brett, 11.
