Joe Bond, a life-long Lebanon resident and political newcomer, is exploring the possibility of seeking the District 17 Senate seat that will be vacated by Sen. Mae Beavers, a candidate for Wilson County Mayor.
         
Bond, the son of long-time Wilson County Criminal Court Judge J.O. Bond who died late last year after an extended illness, said recently he has been approached by several political allies about his intentions in next year’s Senate race. Bond, a former mortgage banker, is employed by Johnson Controls as an Energy Consultant, would run on the Democratic ticket.

Joe Bond, a life-long Lebanon resident and political newcomer, is exploring the possibility of seeking the District 17 Senate seat that will be vacated by Sen. Mae Beavers, a candidate for Wilson County Mayor.
         
Bond, the son of long-time Wilson County Criminal Court Judge J.O. Bond who died late last year after an extended illness, said recently he has been approached by several political allies about his intentions in next year’s Senate race. Bond, a former mortgage banker, is employed by Johnson Controls as an Energy Consultant, would run on the Democratic ticket.
          
“I am considering it strongly. My family and I are currently discussing it and I will make my intentions known soon,” Bond said in a telephone interview last week.
          
Several names have surfaced as potential candidates for the Senate seat since Beavers’ announcement on running for the Mayor’s position in early July. Wilson County Property Assessor Jack Pratt has set the record straight that he will not be a candidate for the seat while State Rep. Susan Lynn’s name has been mentioned as a candidate on the Republican ticket.

Lynn has represented the 57th District that includes parts of Sumner and Wilson County in the state legislature since 2002.
          
Lynn said she plans on announcing her intentions on Aug. 17.

Former State Sen. Robert Rochelle is also considering a run for the office he formerly held. He said is talking to citizens and “I am listening.”

The only other announced candidates seeking the Senate office are Democrat Aubrey Givens, an attorney, while Republican A.J. McCall has also made known his intentions to seek that seat.
