Dolly Parton to open Nashville Theme Park
Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Dolly_Parton_FaceDolly Parton and Gaylord Entertainment announced yesterday afternoon that they had entered into a 50/50 joint venture to develop the first phase of a new Nashville amusement park on 125 acres of land across Briley Parkway from Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.

“This is going to be so special. It’s a gift for everybody,” Parton told the press yesterday on her 66th birthday. The first phase, a $50 million water-and-snow theme park, will help fill the gap left when Opryland USA closed its doors in 1997 and is expected to attract a half million visitors its first year. It could open by the summer of 2014.

Not only should it boost tourism in Nashville and Wilson County, but it should help fill rooms in Middle Tennessee hotels and generate as many as 500 new full and part-time jobs.

Ground-breaking on the project is expected late this year or in early 2013.
