By PATRICK HALL Early voting is under way with 646 citizens casting their ballots so far through Thursday afternoon. The voters cast their ballots early for the March 6 Presidential Preferential Primary. Wilson County Administrator of Elections Phillip Warren said he expects Monday to be a good voting day because of the Presidents’ Day holiday. “Early voting is going great, the weather seems to be cooperating,” Warren said.On the first day of early voting, Feb. 15, there were 212 votes cast and on the second, 189 were tallied as of about 4 p.m. Warren said the total also includes votes from nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Wilson County, which accounts for 245 votes of the total so far. “They voted last Tuesday and Wednesday, we visit every licensed nursing home and assisted living place in the county,” Warren said. Wilson County Election Commission has two teams of four volunteers who go to nursing homes and assisted living facilities to help their residents vote during each election. The total for both days to start early voting was very similar, and Warren said they hope the turnout continues. Since the Election Commission’s polling locations will be open on Monday, Feb. 20, Presidents’ Day, Warren hopes many people will make the trip to early vote. “We will be open then, so that could be a big day,” Warren said, adding, “I think the voting’s gone well, we’re very pleased.” There are about 53,000 registered voters in Wilson County, he noted. Voters can visit three locations for early voting including, the Wilson County Election Commission office at 228 E. Main Street in Lebanon, the Watertown Community Center on Sparta Pike and the Mt. Juliet Community Center at 1075 Charlie Daniels Pkwy. Early voting will end on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The three polling locations are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on the two Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Staff Writer Patrick Hall may be contacted at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
