By PATRICK HALL Registration cards issued to Wilson County voters earlier this year do not indicate whether a resident lives within the Lebanon Special School District boundary. As part of the redistricting process that was carried out by all levels of government, new registration cards were issued to voters in the spring, but the new card no longer tells voters if they are able to vote in the LSSD School Board elections. “We left that off just for space,” said Wilson County Administrator of Elections Phillip Warren.Warren said that information is still contained within the Election Commission database and noted when someone comes in to vote or register to vote, their address will signify whether they live in the LSSD boundary. “If we pull up your registration, it shows in our code that you can vote in the LSSD,” he said, referring to those living inside the boundary. Nearby, Franklin Special School District in Williamson County must have its boundaries approved by the Tennessee General Assembly, as does the LSSD. According to Williamson County Administrator of Elections Ann Beard, their new cards explicitly show the FSSD if the voter lives within the boundary. She said there have been issues in the past regarding the FSSD when citizens would come to vote. “The only problem we have had is a voter not sure if they can vote in the special district,” Beard said. However she noted it is possible that human error can be a factor in plugging in the right code into voting machines but added she was unaware of any major issues in recent FSSD elections.
