By PATRICK HALL A Madison man was arrested Saturday, Sept. 29, for allegedly burning down his girlfriend’s house in Watertown. Watertown Police Chief Joe Hall said Scott Dale Akers, 43, of 313 Warrior Road in Madison, was arrested and charged with arson for setting fire to the home of Jill Green at 233 Cornwell Ave. The fire was reported at 10:48 p.m., Saturday. Watertown Fire Department and Wilson County Emergency Management Agency responded to the call. WEMA Director John Jewell when crews first arrived one room was on fire. “According to (Akers), he set the curtains on fire and it went from there,” Hall noted.Hall indicated Akers and Green began arguing and got into an altercation. The police chief added that Akers admitted to starting the fire. Hall said Akers lived at the home with Green and two children and pointed out no one was hurt in the fire. Jewell said the fire was extinguished around midnight, Sunday. He noted another call came in about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday and emergency personnel found the fire had been rekindled and had fully-engulfed the home. “It was about 100 feet in the air,” Jewell said of the flames, adding there was some damage to a neighboring home as well. The fire was extinguished, and Jewell said the home was totally destroyed after the fire rekindled. Hall said they are still investigating where the fire began in the home and how it spread. Akers is charged with arson, public intoxication and violating terms of a behavioral contract and is in custody at the Wilson County Jail. His bond is set at $60,000.
