Veteran educator and native Wilson Countian Nancy Ash has been hired as the Associate Director of Schools/Director of Teaching and Learning for the Lebanon Special Schools District. She replaces Dr. Jeanne Barker who was hired recently as the Lenoir City Director of Schools. “We are excited to have Nancy join our leadership team," LSSD Director of Schools Scott Benson said late last week. "She brings a servant leadership style with a proven 30 year record of increased academic success in diverse learning communities from the perspectives of a teacher, a building administrator and the district office." Ash is leaving her post as the Supervisor of Testing and Accountability with the Wilson County School System after having helped that system achieve a marked improvement in test scores. In the county system, she had been a highly-decorated classroom teacher, assistant principal and principal at Lebanon High prior to taking her central office position. Three times she was named “Mt. Juliet High School Teacher of the Year” and “Wilson County Teacher of the Year” on two other occassions. In the LSSD, Ash will guide the system in the areas of curriculum, instruction and “Mrs. Ash is a respected member of the education community with an established reputation of integrity, professionalism and knowledge."
