Council defers fireworks ordinance

Lebanon City Council deferred voting on an ordinance that would legalize the sale of fireworks within the Lebanon city limits at their meeting on Tuesday night.

The ordinance was brought forth by Ward 6 Councilor Kathy Warmath, who said after doing her research she found that backlash over the proposal was being ignited by a fireworks vendor who set up shop in the county, outside of Lebanon city limits.

Council members decided that a work session would first be held before the item next appeared on the agenda for vote.

Fireworks were legal to sale and shoot inside of the city limits until an incident in July 2000 when two Lebanon Police Officers were injured while responding to a call about juveniles shooting fireworks. Upon arrival, the juveniles reportedly shot fireworks at the officers.
