Additional shots required for students this year |

Tennessee Department of Health officials announced recently that seventh grade students across the state will be required to have two additional immunization shots before returning to school this fall, as well as a new immunization certificate. Seventh-graders will be required to have the tetanus-diptheria-pertussis booster (Tdap) as well as a second dose of the varicella, or chicken pox, vaccine. |

Immanuel Baptist Church to hear from county mayoral candidates |

BY CHELSEA BURNETT The Wilson Post Immanuel Baptist Church in Lebanon is hosting a unique evening service on Sunday, June 27 and has invited Wilson County Mayoral candidates Don Fox, Randall Hutto and Phillip Warren to attend and speak to members during the service which starts at 6 p.m. The candidates will each have time to speak to the congregation about their views and what they hope to accomplish for Wilson County, followed by prayer for the candidates and their families along with an informal meet-and-greet afterwards. Pastor John Hunn said that there is a “biblical mandate to pray for your leaders,” adding, “my concern in this day and age is that people are making decisions on what they’re for or against based on a lack of knowledge.” |

Co-founder of Tucker Sausage funeral set Thursday |

James B. “Jimmy” Tucker, co-founder of Lebanon’s Tucker Sausage, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at Lebanon’s University Medical Center. Mr. Tucker, 83, was a World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific with the US Army. Born October 9, 1926, in Wilson County to the late B. O. and Virginia Lea Tucker, he attended Lebanon City Schools throughout his school life and graduated in 1944. |

Mendenhall in court Monday |

A disposition hearing is set for Monday, June 21, for the case of Bruce Mendenhall, 56, who was charged with the murder of Symantha Winters, 48, three years ago.
Winters’ body was found by a maintenance worker in a trash can at a Lebanon truck stop on June 6, 2007. She had been shot to death. In addition to murder, Mendenhall was also charged with abuse of a corpse.
The hearing on Monday will be generally to determine a date for when Mendenhall’s trial will begin. Judge John Wootten will preside over the trial. |

Fly In to benefit Wounded Warriors |

Lebanon Airport will host the third annual Mid Tenn Fly In on Saturday, June 26 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a VA accredited program dedicated to raising awareness and assistance of severely injured service men and women.
WWP also strives to preserve the history of military service through advocacy and educational enlightenment.
The annual event will reunite and honor retired military “war birds” and donate 100 percent of the $3 gate fee to the Wounded Warrior Project. |
