Lynn hopes education bill opens door to vouchers

Because of some small, discrete wording in a section of the governor’s Race To The Top Bill, some are holding out hope that it will lead to the introduction of a school vouchers program if the bill is passed.

State Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Lebanon, said she was so shocked by the wording and the possibility of education reform, she formally requested her original vote of no to be changed on the basis of closer inspection of the oft-amended bill.

Alsup retires from Lebanon Senior Citizens Center

More than 200 senior and non-senior citizens of Lebanon’s Senior Citizen Center came out to wish Director Wallace Alsup farewell and to thank him for 22 years of service to Lebanon’s aged at a retirement ceremony this past Friday.

Alsup and his wife Sue began working with the center in November 1987. When he began, Alsup said the center only had 15 members.

Project Linus ‘Blanket Day’

“Blanketeers” from across Middle Tennessee gathered to give warmth to ill and traumatized children in Lebanon on Monday by quilting and cutting fabric for children at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

“Blanket Day” was held by Project Linus’ Nashville Chapter at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday.

Music City Star, RTA buses will not operate on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) will not operate the Music City Star or bus routes 91X Franklin/Brentwood Express, 92X Gallatin/Hendersonville Express, 95X Spring Hill Express and 96X Nashville/Murfreesboro Relax & Ride in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 18. 

The RTA administrative office will be closed. 

For more information, contact Customer Care at 862-5950 weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
