Local man remembers Pearl Harbor attack |

By BEN DUDLEY The Wilson Post It was Dec. 7, 1941, “a date that will live in infamy,” said President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was an unannounced military strike conducted by the Japanese navy against the United States' naval base at Pearl Harbor on a Sunday morning, which later resulted in the U.S. becoming militarily involved in World War II. It was intended as a preventive action to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from influencing the war the Empire of Japan was planning to wage in Southeast Asia against Britain, the Netherlands and the United States. |

Local National Guard unit to leave |

From Post staff reports Members of Lebanon’s Army National Guard unit, a group of some 154 men and women soldiers, will leave tomorrow for the first step of a year-long deployment in war torn southwest Asia. The first stop on their mission will be near Hattiesburg, Miss. where they will participate in mobilization training and preparation for about two months and then, according to the Guard’s public affairs office in Nashville, the unit will depart the U.S. for the Iraqi theater of operations in early February. |

By JENNIFER HORTON The Wilson Post Volunteers of a local organization that distributes toys and other items to those less fortunate at Christmas need your help this year as a sponsor or a contributor. Wilson County Christmas for All, a 501 (c) 3 charitable group, is collecting and distributing toys and clothes to children and families and food boxes and other items to those 55 and older and those who are disabled. Distribution began on Tuesday, Dec. 1. |

Credit union robbed at gunpoint, suspect sought |

A local credit union was robbed Thursday, and the suspect remains at large. Covington Credit Union at 1123 N. Castle Heights Ave., Lebanon, was robbed at gunpoint at 10:15 a.m., Thursday by a man carrying what Lebanon Police described as a shotgun, said Chief Scott Bowen. The first officer arrived on the scene at 10:22 a.m. |
