Box believed bomb halts train

Commuter rail service was stopped from Nashville to Lebanon, and homes near the Music City Star station on Baddour Parkway were evacuated yesterday when a city sanitation worker discovered a “suspicious box” that authorities said look as if it had  been placed at the bottom of a trash container.

Lebanon Police confirmed the sanitation worker’s discovery and shortly before 2 p.m. on Tuesday blocked off entrances into the commuter station, ordered the evacuation of homes along Hill Street and nearby North Greenwood and called for emergency assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s bomb squad..

State report card released, may look worse next year

The report card that grades the progress for the school districts in the state, as well as the state average, was released Tuesday and the grades, while not terrible, were not as great as some would hope.

“We are setting a baseline for the future,” said Dr. Timothy Webb, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Education. “We are trying to help our state compete nationally and globally.”

Lebanon plans several Veterans Day activities

Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov. 11, and for veterans this day has a very deep personal significance. 

This is true for almost all Americans. It is a day set aside each year to honor our veterans and remember that our freedom was earned and can only be maintained at a price. For many this price was and is the ultimate sacrifice of our service men and women’s lives, separation from our families and at many other costs.  We believe this cost is worth the price and the effort in maintaining our freedoms.

Wilson County Health Department offers H1N1 vaccine

Wilson County Health Department will offer H1N1 injectable vaccine by appointment during clinic on Thursday, Nov. 5 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. 

To make an appointment, call 444-5325. The H1N1 flu vaccine will be provided at no charge. Parking will be provided at the Wilson County Fairgrounds.
