Franklin's seat on commission may have opposition |

By BEN DUDLEY The Wilson Post Competition has emerged for the District 7 seat on Wilson County Commission now vacant after the resignation of Don Franklin who suffered a stroke in May. Franklin’s wife, Georgia, has said she is interested in completing her husband’s term on the commission, but Terry Scruggs, a Wilson Emergency Management Agency employee, has said he is interested in the position. Another person, Brian Fountain, a Lebanon firefighter, is also believed to be interested. |

Breast Cancer Friends slates annual ‘Celebration of Life’ |

Breast Cancer Friends support group meets the third Monday night of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Maple Hill church of Christ located on the corner of West Main Street and Maple Hill Road in Lebanon. Those who have had breast cancer in the past or are dealing with it now are welcome to attend. |

Applications open online until Dec. 31 The Scarlett Family Foundation today announced it will accept applications Sept. 15-Dec. 31 for financial aid to students from 39 Middle Tennessee counties. The scholarships are open to high school seniors planning to study business, and current college freshmen, sophomores and juniors already studying business at any accredited, not-for-profit, four-year college or university in the United States. |

Rhizokids holding Family Fun Day at fairgrounds |

By BEN DUDLEY The Wilson Post A local children’s charity is holding a fund raiser at the Wilson County Fairgrounds on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Rhizokids Family Fun Day will donate all money raised will go to research for a cure/treatment for Rhizomelic Chondrodysplasia Punctata, or RCDP. This is a fatal form of dwarfism that typically takes the lives of children before they turn 3. |

Investigation continues in Statesville murder |

By BEN DUDLEY The Wilson Post A man who was shot and killed during a party in Statesville this past weekend was buried Thursday. The investigation is continuing in the case. Authorities are still interviewing persons regarding the shooting. |
