New Winters Chapel AME Church will celebrate its 125th Church Anniversary/Homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 20 with the theme “Home is Where the Heart Is.” Special guests will be Pastor Allen and LaGuardo UME Church at the 11 a.m. service, and Bishop A.J. Valentine and the Lebanon Church of God congregation at the 3 p.m. service. Brother John R. and Miss C. from Gospel Show 98.9 will also be special guests at 3 p.m. |

‘Sherry’s Run’ participants reach record number – and still counting |

Monies raised to aid local cancer patients The upcoming “Sherry’s Run (5k Run/Walk)” slated for Saturday, Sept. 12 is poised to be the largest in terms of participants and teams. “The Wilson County Fair isn’t the only local event that is breaking records for participation -- as of today (Tuesday), ‘Sherry’s Run’ had over 2,300 participants registered and over 73 teams participating. We are thrilled with the tremendous response and feel fortunate that the money raised will help those folks in our community who are hurting,” said Tonyia Watson, co-chair and board member of “Sherry’s Run.” |

County school board protested for not allowing Obama speech |

By BEN DUDLEY The Wilson Post About 30 people showed up Tuesday morning who were protesting at the Wilson County Board of Education Central Office regarding the board’s decision not to allow teachers to show President Barack Obama’s speech to students. Mike Davis, director of schools, said that the decision had nothing to do with politics or a vendetta against the President. |

Local man dies in accident |

From Post staff reports A single-car accident in the Norene community on Friday night resulted in the death of one man. The accident occurred at 7:29 p.m., Sept. 4 on Cainsville Road near Simmons Bluff Road. The victim, Kenneth W. Allen, 53, of Alexandria, was the only person in the vehicle, a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer, said Sgt. Stacey Heatherly, spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Safety. |

Home sales continue upward trend in Wilson Co. |

Even though the August temperatures were cooler than normal, the housing market in Wilson County is continuing to heat up. Wilson County is still on the upswing and seeing an increase in homes sales, increase in median sales price and increase in pending home sales, said Amy Hamilton, a local real estate agent and member of the Eastern Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors. |
