1 killed in tanker vs. vehicle wreck

A collision involving a vehicle and a tanker truck on Highway 231 North in Wilson County on Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of at least one person.

“It was a confirmed fatality,” said Mike Browning, public information officer with the Tennessee Department of Safety.

Browning said as of Wednesday morning he had not received any additional information regarding the accident but hoped to have more later in the day.

Squires nod tax relief for elderly

Wilson County Commission had a busy agenda Monday night but one of the most important measures that was passed will give some senior citizens a shot in the arm for their property tax bill.
   
Wilson County Trustee Jim Major said county squires passed unanimously a measure that would kick in an additional $100 for those elderly and disabled Wilson County residents that already qualify for a property tax relief program sponsored by the State of Tennessee.

County Commission allows guns in parks, shoots down funding for schools

Members of the public turned in force at Wilson County Commission’s meeting Monday to support and/or opposed three major items on the agenda.

Besides approving a $190.8 million budget for fiscal year 2009-2010, the commission voted on prohibiting guns in parks as well as increasing the adequate facilities tax, or impact fee.
