Nissan officials work site prep this week

Officials with Nissan met Tuesday at the Wilson County location of a new warehouse for site preparation, officials said yesterday.
         
Wilson County Joint Economic & Community Development Board Executive Director G.C. Hixson said Tuesday that the consolidation of a Nissan distribution center and warehouse from Rutherford to Wilson County began this week when developers and contractors met at the southeast corner of Couchville Pike and State Route 840 for site preparation.

Lebanon Special Schools go green

Lebanon Schools Special District is going green, and the changes have already begun, said Assistant Director of Schools Randall Hutto.

All of the schools have been working to recycle paper since 2007, but this spring a systemwide contest really brought in the paper, a total of 106,880 pounds of it in one month.

Trial date set for suspect in rape

A date of Nov. 9 has been set as the trial date here for Robert Jason Burdick who is suspected in the rape of a then 16-year-old girl in the driveway of her home in Wilson County late the night of Feb. 1, 2008.

Summit puts focus on action for mass transit in region

NASHVILLE – “The Power of Ten,” an event convened in Nashville Wednesday to promote discussions about regionalism and specifically mass transit as it relates to 10 counties comprising the core of Middle Tennessee, attracted nearly 500 area leaders including several from Wilson County and ended in a call for action for all counties participating.
 
Staged by Cumberland Region Tomorrow, the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Nashville Area Planning Organization, the summit, as the event was described, featured nationally recognized experts and political leaders who offered advice and observations to help inform attendees on how to deal with issues involving mass transit.
