Starbucks distribution a strong bet for Park 840

Wilson County Joint Economic & Community Development Executive Director G.C. Hixson declined to confirm if Duke Realty’s plans for a 688,000-square-foot warehouse development at Park 840 in Lebanon will indeed be a Starbucks’ distribution center – but one thing is for certain – whatever company that plans to occupy the space has promised local folks new jobs.

While Hixson would not confirm that Starbucks would be the new occupant at Park 840, two other local officials have both said Starbucks is locating a distribution center here.

“They are getting close to doing a lease deal, but to my knowledge they have not yet signed. I cannot confirm who it is,” Hixson said, adding that steps have been taken in the city and county to make the spot more attractive to the company in a competitive market.

On Tuesday night, the Lebanon City Council approved a six-year tax abatement for the unnamed company, provided they create 150 new jobs over a three-year period.

Hixson explained that they are using conservative numbers and only consider full-time jobs when it comes to qualifying for a tax abatement program. However, the actual number of new hires could be more if the company chooses to hire temporary or seasonal employees.

“There will be 150 new jobs over a three-year period, 120 temp-to-hire and almost 300 full-time employees brought in from an existing Middle Tennessee location,” Hixson said.

According to a company website, Starbucks runs five regional distribution centers in the U.S.; two are company-owned and the other three are operated by third-party logistics companies.

The company also has two distribution centers in Europe and two in Asia, all of which are managed by third parties.

Coffee, however, is only one of many products held at these warehouses. They also handle other items required by Starbucks' retail outlets—everything from furniture to cappuccino mix.

The Wilson Post first reported the Project Zinc plan in the Jan. 25 edition of the newspaper.

Glitz & Glamour to offer prom makeovers for 5 Wilson County students
Thursday, February 21, 2013

The Wilson Post

Prom season is fast approaching, and the stylists at Glitz & Glamour Salon in Lebanon are ready to give one lucky Wilson County student a night she will always remember.

“This is our second annual prom makeover giveaway. We are doing the same thing as last year – one girl will be chosen from each Wilson County high school for free hair, makeup application and nails for prom,” explained stylist Shannon Steele. However this year, with a community partnership, they have created one grand prize package that will be given to one of the five young ladies nominated.

The grand prize package will include a prom ticket paid for by The Corn Crib Health Store, prom dress from Demarris Gene, jewelry from a Sea of Silver and Sass, spray tan from Beauty Boutique, shoes from Sole U’Nique, a dental care kit from Nave Dental Studio, a corsage from Moss’ Florist, lipstick from MaryKay Consultant Stephanie Hollis, dinner at Mo’Cara’s Southern Fine Dining and limousine transportation from Stevie Saddler, owner of Saddler Funeral Home.

“We really have the community rallied around us for this,” Steele said.

Fellow stylist Jessica Dodds added, “We wouldn’t have a grand prize winner if it wasn’t for those people.”

High school girls can be nominated for a prom makeover by teachers, school staff, family members and peers. “When you nominate somebody you should say why they need this. We want to understand why they deserve it. It can be somebody who is needy or just someone who is involved in the community. The girl we picked last year started her own charity,” stylist Ginny McDonald said.

Nominations can be emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The deadline to nominate someone is April 6.

“I see so many girls who don’t know how pretty they are. There is so much beauty inside of girls and at that age they are sometimes afraid to let it out. This giveaway is about making them feel pretty,” Steele said.

“Everybody leaves here looking good – that is what our job is. But this is about outreach to the community and letting girls know that it is okay to be pretty, smart, fun and raise awareness. These girls are excited about prom and you can come here and we will get excited about it with you. We want five special girls to win.”
