HERMITAGE — Memorial services will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 7 at New Hope Baptist Church, for Sgt. Howland, 51, of Hermitage. Known as "Buddy" to his family and friends, he died Saturday, July 4, 2009. 

Sgt. Howland served his country with the 82nd Airborne Division and was a Recruiter for the TN Army National Guard for many years. He was a graduate of Non-Commission Officer’s School, Jungle Warfare School, Parachute School and Recruiting School at Ft. Benjamin Harrison.

Sgt. Howland was awarded many honors and awards during his military career. A graduate of Red Bank High School, Class of 1976, he was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church in Hermitage for over 20 years.

Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted 12:30 p.m. EST, Wednesday, July 8 at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Survivors include: children Hayley Olivia Howland, Chase Howland and Chandler Howland; parents Robert C. and Rosetta J. Howland; siblings David W. Howland and Kathy A. Mundis; nieces Kellie Siedel, Brooke Garrett and Jordyn Howland and nephew Joshua Howland.

He is preceded in death by his sister Pamela Howland Garrett and his grandparents Charles and Edna Howland and Rufus J. and Pansy W. Jarnagin.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to a trust fund for the Howland children that will be set up at a later date.

Arrangements by Bond Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Road and Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet.
