MT. JULIET -- Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 17 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet for Mr. Underwood, 78, of Cookeville. Born July 13, 1931 in Tishomgo, MS, he died July 13, 2009 in Cookeville after complications from a long-term illness. Mr. Underwood was retired from Rand-McNally and the US Postal Service. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Black Angus Society. The son of the late Hector Lee and Hattie Mae Underwood, he enjoyed sports, NASCAR and had a special love for wildlife. Visitation with the family will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. He is survived by sister Bess (Phil) Shockley; daughter Pamela Underwood; son Michael (Becky) Underwood; granddaughters Jennifer (Rickey) Norvil and Katherine (John) Childres; great-grandchildren Ryan and Tyler Norvil and Harley and Jolynn Childres; nine nieces and nephews; and many other beloved family members. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Heritage Point, Cookeville Hospital (6 East Staff), Kelly Tayes and the many caretakers and friends who provided loving and considerate care for Mr. Underwood. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Vivian Lossman and Verna Smith. Active pallbearers will include: Scotty Miller, Rickey Norvil, Phil Shockley, John Childres, Joe Robison and Larry Mauldin. Sellars Funeral Home, Mt. Juliet is in charge of arrangements. |
