Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20 at the First United Methodist Church for Cassie Lela Martin Hallum, 99, of Lebanon. A longtime community volunteer, Mrs. Hallum died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Lebanon's Quality Health Care Center. A 1931 graduate of Watertown High School, where she was nominated Salutatorian by her peers, Mrs. Hallum worked at the Lebanon Garment Factory for more than 40 years, until it closed in 1979. She enjoyed volunteering at University Medical Center and the Lebanon Help center along with many other community organizations. Mrs. Hallum was a lifetime member and a Woman of the Year for the Lebanon Business Professional Women’s Club. She was a member of Lebanon’s First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 60 years. She often said her secret for a long healthy life was to, "stay busy helping others". Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19 between the hours of 4-8 p.m. at the Partlow Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the service at the First United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted by Pastor David “Bucky” Hesson. Interment will folloa at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Survivors include: children Raymond (Julia) Hallum, Joe (Chris) Hallum, Charles “Pepper” (Edna) Hallum and Rachel Faye (Charlie) Edwards. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles Wesley and Aggie Lena Shoemake Martin; husband Eugene Hallum; son Robert Hallum; brothers Clarence Martin and Shelah Martin; sister Ruby Martin. Active pallbearers: Ricky Hallum, Danny Hallum, Chris Hallum, Mike Hallum, Mark Hallum and Jerry Hardin. Honorary: friends and members of Lebanon’s First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made in Mrs. Hallum’s memory to Lebanon’s First United Methodist Church, 415 West Main Street, Lebanon, 37087.
