OLD HICKORY -- Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, March 14 at the Hermitage Funeral Home for Mr. Ligon, 92, of Old Hickory. Born January 24, 1918, he died Thursday, Mar, 11, 2010.

Mr. Ligon was a renowned farmer and the fifth generation to farm the oldest bi-centennial farm in Wilson County, which was established in 1789. He is the owner of the oldest Poland China purebred hog herd in the United States.

Mr. Ligon was a WWII veteran, having entered landed on Utah Beach as a Company Commander, and helped build the main line of communications from Cherboug to Frankfurt.

LEBANON -- Martha “Mert” Jennings passed away on March 11, 2010 at age 88.  The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon from 2-8 p.m. Friday, March 12th and from 11 a.m. until service on Saturday.

The chapel service, conducted by Brother Danny Sellars, Brother Gary Miller, and Brother Carl Bailey, is 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13. 

Pallbearers:  Allen Hicks, Bryson Phillips, Steven Young, Chris Craighead, Dewayne Sadler, and Sladen Bradley.  Honorary Pallbearers:  Jerry Davis and Joe Batey.  Interment in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Survivors include son Larry (Cassie) Bain; sister-in-law: Ruth Baine; grandchildren; Lynn Bain, Angilia Bain Matthews, Amanda Hicks, Melaine “Splenda” Young, Jan Presley, Carol McDaniel, Sissy Cozart, Lisa Sadler, Allen Hicks, Joe Batey, Dean Batey, Billy Batey, and Jeremy Bain; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by husbands Claude “Slim” Jennings and Ova Jay Bain, parents Calvin and Alice Spurlock Baine, son Roy Dale Bain, daughters Wilma Batey and Linda Parrish, siblings Edward “Poodle” Baine, Clara May Dutton, and Dorothy Vickers.

MT. JULIET -- Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet for Mrs. Strickland, 87, of Mt. Juliet. Mrs. Strickland passed away at University Medical Center Thursday, Mar. 11, 2010.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, March 12 from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, March 13 from 11 a.m. until time of service. Services will be conducted by Brother Danny Sellars. Interment will follow the service at Cowgill Cemetery in Mt. Juliet.

Survivors include: daughter Brenda Joyce Strickland of Mt. Juliet; son-in-law Jerry E. Flynn of Mt. Juliet; grandson Jeffrey Dale Strickland of Mt. Juliet; and daughter-in-law Joyce M. Strickland of Tullahoma.

She is preceded in death by father Horace Cole; mother Arena J. Anderson; her husband of over 54 years James Odell Strickland; and son Oscar Odell Strickland.

Active pallbearers: Jeffrey Dale Strickland, James F. Hopper, Jimmy Hopper, Matt Flynn, Andy Martin and George Robinson. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Roger McKinney, Dr. Bernard Sy, Dr. Bill Robertson, Odyssey Hospice and the staff at UMC.

NASHVILLE -- Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11 at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home, 429 Donelson Pike, for Mrs. Bollinger, 84, of Grayson, GA. A native of Watertown, she died March 7, 2010, in Georgia.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Services will be conducted by Dr. Paul Casner. Interment will be in Wilson County Memorial Park, Lebanon.

Survivors include: adopted children Tom and Bealinda Holloman; grandchildren Sarah, Becky and John; sisters Claudine Simms, Louise Talley and Elizabeth Thompson; sister-in-law Rae Bollinger.

MT. JULIET -- Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10 at Victory Baptist Church, 1777 Tate Lane, for Mr. Hurt, 72, of Mt. Juliet. Known as "Buddy" to his family and friends, the DuPont retiree died Mar. 8, 2010.

A charter member of Victory Baptist Church and a former member of Green Hill Baptist Church, Mr. Hurt served in the US Army, he loved camping, traveling and Mt. Juliet High School basketball.
Visitation 10 - 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Victory Baptist Church.

Services will be conducted by Rev. Chuck Groover and Rev. W. D. Thomason. Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.

Surviors include: daughters Sharon (Kevin) Withrow and Susan (Greg) McRay; granddaughter "Sweet" Caroline McRay, mother-in-law Mary Ella Duncan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Delson and Barbara Jean Smith; many nieces and nephews; special friends Ken Cates, Wayne Shull, Prince Croley (deceased). Special thanks to his caregiver Joan Murphree.

Mr. Hurt is preceded in death by wife of 43 years Linda Duncan Hurt; parents Virgil and Naomi Hurt; several brothers and sisters.

Active pallbearers: Wayne Shull, Frank Horne, Ken Cates, Orville Everett, Wayne Greene, Danny Vantrease and Donnie Lawrence. Honorary: Senior Mens Sunday School Class.
