 An 18-year-old man arrested and charged with vehicle burglaries in the Oak Hill subdivision in Lebanon is suspected of committing approximately 40 such incidents, along with two other people, one a juvenile.

Lebanon Police Chief Scott Bowen said the suspect, Andre A. Fleming, 18, of 215 Ward Street, Apartment B, Lebanon, was reinterviewed by authorities with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Wilson County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday night.

“We believe that he and two others were involved in probably around 40 vehicle burglaries or more in Lebanon and Wilson County,” Bowen said.

He added that Fleming is still charged with one count of burglary and one count of theft of property, although additional charges are expected to be filed. He remains in Wilson County Jail with bond set at $110,000.

The chief noted previously, in a story that appeared at www.wilsonpost.com on Tuesday afternoon, that Fleming was already out on bond prior to this incident after being charged with aggravated robbery, theft of property and burglary in another case.   

Also arrested in connection with the vehicle burglaries was Byron D. Davis, 19, of Lebanon. He remained in jail on $16,000 and was charged with violation of probation.

A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested and later released into the custody of his parents.

All three suspects have charges pending against them, Bowen said.

The chief said officers were conducting extra patrols after several vehicle burglaries had occurred in the Crosswinds and Oak Hill subdivisions and in the county, as well, this past weekend. Officers had observed what he termed was a “suspicious vehicle” in a parking lot off West Main Street on Monday. They were patrolling in Oak Hill where they discovered some cars had been broken into although nothing was missing. When they went back, the officers noticed the vehicle from the parking lot was gone.

A description of the vehicle was issued, and officers later found it and stopped it on East Market Street where they obtained permission to search it. Bowen said officers reportedly found “several thousands of dollars’ worth” of electronics equipment inside the vehicle.

The victim in the case came in, the chief said, and identified the items, and Fleming was charged.

In addition, Bowen said among some of the property recovered was a handgun that belonged to a TBI agent who resides in Wilson County.

“We’re very happy to get that weapon off the streets,” he said. “I can’t say enough about our officers,” the chief said, adding they recovered the items reportedlly stolen before the burglary was reported by the victim.

He noted it was frustrating to him and officers that the suspect was out on bond allegedly committing another crime after having been arrested previously and still facing charges in that case.

“We went ahead and charged him to get him off the streets,” Bowen said. “He’s 18 (facing) three felony charges and he’s 18 years of age.”
