MJ 7, WILSON CENTRAL 3 --Mt. Juliet's Lady Bears broke open a 3-3 game with a four run burst in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-3 victory over visiting Wilson Central Thursday in District 9AAA softball action.
Tori Barrett slammed a pair of home runs for Mt. Juliet (15-5-1 / 5-0), including a two-run shot in the sixth, and finished with three hits and three RBI. Lauren Woodard scattered 11 hits to get the win for the Lady Bears.
Allie Bennett paced the Wilson Central offense with three hits and Morgan Powell had a pair of hits and two RBI. Powell was tagged with the loss as WCHS dropped to 21-9 overall / 3-2 in District 9AAA.
Both teams are slated for tournament play this weekend as Central will participate in the Sonic Classic Friday at Franklins Fly Park against Lipscomb (7 p.m.) and Camden (8:30 p.m.).
Mt. Juliet is headed to Knoxville for the Gibbs tournament. MJ will play Seymour Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Knox Central Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
LEBANON 8, GALLATIN 3 --GALLATIN -- Beth Swartwout struck out nine and scattered seven hits as Lebanon defeated Gallatin 8-3 Tuesday at Triple Creek Park. LHS improved to 7-10-1 overall and 2-4 in District 9AAA with the win.
Bethan Anderson had three hits -- two doubles and a triple while Katie Blackburn added a pair of hits. All told, Lebanon banged out 10 hits against Gallatin pitching.
Lebanon is set to play in the Knox Gibbs tournament this weekend, taking on Baylor today at 5:30 p.m. -- followed by a matchup with Knox Karns at 8:30 a.m. A game with host Gibbs is set for Saturday at 8:30 before the elimination portion of the tournament gets underway.
FRIENDSHIP VISITS WATERTOWNFriendship Christians softball team will pay a visit to Watertowns Three Forks Park later today as the Lady Commanders square off with District 8A rival Watertown High. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
The two teams played Tuesday in Lebanon as FCS came away with a 5-1 victory, overcoming an early 1-0 Tigerette lead.
Friendship improved to 101-11 overall and 4-0 in District 8A. Watertown slid to 7-7-1 / 1-2 in league play.
Hunter Holland went the distance to get the win for the Lady Commanders, allowing five hits and striking out 10. Mallory Johnson had a two-run double for FCS and Kelsi Dickey added a two-run triple.
Jamie Reed took the loss for Watertown, striking out three with one walk. She allowed nine hits. Tiffany Tomlinson had an RBI single for WHS.
MJCA 16, GLENCLIFF 1 --MT. JULIET -- The Lady Saints struck for 16 runs in just three at bats Tuesday in a 16-1, run-rule win over visiting Glencliff High. Brianna Caldwell tossed a three-inning one-hitter with four strikeouts. Shelby Leach paced MJCA (7-5) offense with three hits -- including an inside the park homer.
