Botts went out in two-under 34 and then blistered the back nine with a five-under 31 for his seven-under par score on the par-72, 6,838-yard course. The Wilson County native and Lebanon High graduate leads the field by five shots, ahead of teammate and fellow frosh Peyton Broyles, who carded a two-under 70 in his first collegiate round. Broyles was even on the front nine and two-under on the back.
Juniors Austin Garrett and Jeremy Goodman are both tied for third after shooting even-par 72. Garrett was even on both nines while Goodman shot one-under on the front and one-over on the back.
Senior Zach Brewer registered a two-over 74 for his round, shooting two-over on the back after an even front nine holes. Senior Caleb Evans posted a six-over 78 and is tied for 18th.
The Bulldogs carded a 283 team score and lead Shawnee State by 23 shots and host Georgetown College by 26. The final round of the tournament takes place on Tuesday.
