A new Director of Schools will be named at the Monday, May 6, meeting of the Wilson County Board of Education.

Chairman Don Weathers said that the final round of interviews, held this past Saturday with the two finalists Dr. Tim Sutterlund and Dr. Donna Wright, went extremely well.

We had two qualified people, he said of the process, which consisted of 15-minute, one-on-one interviews with each board member and one 45-minute public interview.

The board members are finalizing their own personal thoughts and we will be making our final decision on Monday. We cannot vote until we have an official public meeting, Weathers said.

Sutterlund, the current assistant director of Schools for Memphis City and Shelby County, and Wright, the current assistant superintendent of Williamson County Schools, were selected as job candidates during a search by Teams, Inc.

Teams, Inc. owner Wayne Qualls, who served as Commissioner of Education under former Tennessee Gov. Don Sundquist, collected 39 original resumes during a nationwide search that began in March. Four candidates were selected for interviews on April 20, including, Wright, Sutterlund, Dennis Albright, Braxton County director of Schools; and David Huff, Obion County director of Schools.

School board members rated each candidate on a scale of 100 points with Wright and Sutterlund garnering the highest total points 397 and 455, respectively, at the April 20 interview.

The Wilson County Director of Schools position will be vacated on June 30, when current Director Mike Davis, who announced plans to resign in December 2012, will move to a new position as Robertson County Director of Schools.
