BYRDSTOWN -- Veteran local outdoor writer John L. Sloan brought home three first place awards from last week's Tennessee Outdoor Writers Association annual convention at Dale Hollow Lake.

“As always, I am honored,” said Sloan. “I really did not expect to place in every category for which I was eligible. There are some great outdoor writers in Tennessee and to win all these awards is something. I am grateful to The Post for allowing me write and not just report.”

Sloan beat out other TOWA members to win first place awards in in newspaper feature story, in photography and in magazine article writing.

He also placed second in column / editorial newspaper writing and third in newspaper media writing.

The 2014 honors come on the heels of his winning six TOWA awards for newspaper writing and photography in 2013, four firsts, a second and a third.
